Learning is a unique journey for each individual student. Students with special learning or other needs receive individualized opportunities through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or interventions. As a learning specialist, I work with a team of student support service personnel to provide students with optimal learning environments, instruction, and experiences.
I am the case manager for students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role allows me to advocate for students, design instruction, and create learning applications that will be meet their individualized goals. I use data, observation, and best practices to drive instruction and to differentiate for my students.
6th grade Study Skills is a course in which I use student learning styles, interests, and real-life needs to help students develop into proactive learners. I teach Executive Functioning skills through a seven-part curriculum including: classroom structure, materials management, time management, study strategies, goal setting, decision making, and learning strategies. Students also receive support in writing, math, spelling, reading comprehension, homework planning, and test preparation.
